Understanding the Economy: A Simple Guide to Buying in Valorant

Have you ever won the first round of a match, only to get completely run over in the second? You bought a powerful Vandal, but the enemy team, armed with Spectres and full shields, just overwhelmed you. This frustrating situation isn't about aim; it’s about the economy.

In Valorant, managing your team’s money (Creds) is just as important as hitting your shots. The goal isn't just to buy a good gun for yourself, but to make sure your entire team can buy good guns at the same time. Think of it as a team bank account. When everyone is on the same page, you have the best chance to win.

Let's break down the three main types of rounds in the simplest way possible.

1. Full Buy (or "Buy Round")

This is when you go all out.

  • When to do it? When you and your teammates have plenty of money, usually 4,000 Creds or more.

  • What do you buy? The best rifles (Vandal or Phantom), Heavy Shields, and all of your abilities.

  • Why? This is your power round. You are at your strongest and have the best equipment to win. The goal of saving money is to be able to have these rounds as often as possible.

2. Save Round (or "Eco Round")

This is when you save your money for the future.

  • When to do it? When your team is broke after losing a round, usually with less than 2,000 Creds.

  • What do you buy? Almost nothing. You might buy a cheap pistol like a Ghost or Sheriff and your most important abilities, but that's it. Never buy a rifle on a save round.

  • Why? You are sacrificing this one round to guarantee that your team will have enough money for a "Full Buy" in the next round. It’s better to lose one round on purpose than to struggle through two or three rounds with bad guns.

3. Half-Buy (or "Force Buy")

This is the middle ground, a calculated risk.

  • When to do it? When your team has a medium amount of money (around 3,000 Creds) and you think you can surprise the enemy.

  • What do you buy? Good submachine guns (Spectre or Stinger), cheaper rifles (Bulldog or Marshal), and Light Shields.

  • Why? You're trying to "force" a win when you're not at full strength. It’s a gamble. If you win, you can break the enemy's economy. If you lose, you’ll have to save in the next round.

The Golden Rule: Buy With Your Team

How do you know what to do? It's simple: look at your teammates' money at the start of the round and do what they do. If four people are saving, you should save too. If everyone is buying Vandals, you should as well. Don't be the one player with a rifle when your team is on an eco round.

Next time you're in a late-night match, take two seconds before you buy. Check what your team can afford. Making smart, coordinated buys is one of the easiest ways to start winning more rounds and climbing the ranks.
